Project Reports

    6. PROJECT:Big Horn Canal Improvements
LEVEL:III
SPONSOR:Big Horn Canal Irrigation District
LOCATION:Big Horn County
PROGRAM:Rehabilitation

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level III 206 1995 II $693,000* 1998
*50% grant, 50% loan (4%, 20 years)

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The district serves 218 irrigators and 23,800 irrigated acres. In 1992, the sponsor requested funding for a Level II rehabilitation study of their facilities. A Level II study was completed in 1994. The Level II study evaluated the existing water supply facilities, identified needed improvements, presented preliminary designs and cost estimates, and developed a prioritized rehabilitation plan.

The rehabilitation plan identified rehabilitation of a check structure, 800 lineal feet of canal lining, and repair of three wasteways as priorities. These improvements will increase the efficiency of the existing irrigation system and serve to reduce operation and maintenance costs.

Presently, the sponsor is completing the legal requirements for project financing. Construction should commence in the fall of 1996.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No legislative action is needed on this project.
