PROJECT INFORMATION:
In 1990, the Town of Cokeville requested assistance in evaluating
additional water supplies. During dry years, the town has experienced
water supply shortages with their present spring sources. In the Level
I evaluation, leaks were found in the distribution system and pumping
station. After repair of these leaks in 1991 the town had sufficient
water. However, the Level I study recommended replacing the spring
sources with wells to insure compliance with EPA requirements,
increasing the present storage by 250,000 gallons, and upgrading the
pumping station.
During the Level II study, three exploratory well sites were drilled to
determine the feasibility of developing a secure groundwater supply for
the town. The most promising location was tested and determined to be
capable of providing adequate quantities of good quality water. The
transmission pipelines have been evaluated. It was determined that the
older line was leaking badly and not necessary to the operation of the
system, therefore, it was permanently removed from service.
In 1994, the town secured the remainder of the necessary funding through
a HUD grant. The sponsor executed the necessary legal documents and
selected an engineer. At the present time, the two new wells have been
drilled and developed. Plans and specifications for the remainder of
the project are complete. Due to right-of-way problems, construction of
the transmission pipeline from the well to town has not yet begun. The
construction of the facilities will be completed in 1996.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No additional legislation is required on this project.
