PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Vista West Improvement and Service District serves 29 homes, a
mobile home park and the Teen Challenge Facility. The district is
supplied by a collection gallery in a spring located in Ogden Canyon,
approximately 3 miles from the district. Water is pumped from the
collection gallery approximately one mile to a 50,000 gallon buried
storage tank located on a ridge. From this point, the water flows by
gravity to a booster pump at the subdivision where the water is treated
and delivered to a 70,000 gallon buried storage tank. The existing
system is costly to operate, cannot meet fire flow requirements, and
does not meet EPA standards for surface water treatment.
The Level II study first analyzed the feasibility of purchasing water
from the Town of Sundance since that alternative would use an existing
and verified source. Cost of this alternative was estimated to be $70
per tap per month for users in Vista West. Consequently, test holes
were drilled in Reuter Canyon. One of the wells had an estimated yield
in excess of 100 gpm. A second well yields about 12 gpm. The project
includes the cost of converting the wells to production status, a
pipeline from the wells to the town's existing storage tank, repairs to
the tank, and removal and reclamation of the town's existing water
supply facilities on the National Forest.
In 1994, the WWDC recommended that the project be progressed in the New
Development Program at Level III status. Construction began in the fall
of 1995 and should be completed in 1996.

No legislative action is needed on this project.
