1997 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects
11. | PROJECT: | Buffalo Valley Water Supply | | | | | |
| LEVEL: | I |
| SPONSOR: | Buffalo Valley Estates Homeowners |
| LOCATION: | Teton County |
| PROGRAM: | New Development |
PROJECT INFORMATION:
Buffalo Valley Estates was approved in 1976. The developer put in a
well, a 6,000 gallon metal storage tank and a 2" galvanized pipeline
system. All the lots were sold and the developer left. Presently 19 of
the 28 lots have homes on them. The original well could not keep up with
the demand and the 2" line started leaking. Therefore, a second well
was drilled in 1988, on Forest Service land, and 50% of the 2"
galvanized line was replaced with 4" plastic pipe. In 1994, 600
additional feet of 2" line was replaced with 4" line. It is the feeling
of the lot owners that a third well needs to be drilled, the original
6,000 gallon storage tank needs to be enlarged and the remainder of the
original 2" galvanized pipeline should be replaced. They also seem to
have some electrical problems associated with this system.
The Level I study inventoried the existing system, evaluated water supply
needs, and evaluated water supply alternatives for the water users in the
Buffalo Valley area. Preliminary plans and cost estimates were developed
for the identified alternatives and a preferred alternative was selected.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends that the project be incorporated into the New
Development Program at a Level II status an appropriation of $90,000.
