The well field has a capacity of 8 million gallons per day. All wells are over 20 years old and were deteriorating and in need of repair. The continued use of the wells reduces demand on the water treatment facilities by 1750 gpm during periods of peak use. Cheyenne's groundwater system is an integral part of the municipal water supply. In 1992, the well field provided 4,500 acre feet towards meeting the city's water demand. The CBPU serves 61,890 people and 17,571 taps.

Cheyenne has 43 active wells. The 1998 appropriation was used to rehabilitate five (5) wells. Ten (10) wells have been redrilled with the 1993 appropriation. Construction of the well houses, controls, pump installation, and piping for these ten wells will be completed in 1996.

No additional legislative action is recommended on this project.
