1997 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects

 72. PROJECT:Riverton Valley Lateral
LEVEL:III
SPONSOR:Riverton Valley Irrigation District
LOCATION:Fremont County
PROGRAM:Rehabilitation

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level III 28 1994 II $350,000* 1999
*100% grant for invoiced materials. The sponsor is responsible for all other project costs.

PROJECT INFORMATION:
Flow measurements on the Riverton Valley Canal were conducted as part of the Wind River Basin Study. The data generated in this study process identified the high loss areas of the canals and estimated the losses. The district requested that an assessment of the laterals under the canal be conducted. The proposed Level III project will address seven of the laterals under the main canal system.

The Riverton Valley laterals experience areas of high exfiltration as well as being high maintenance cost areas. Some of these laterals run for extended distances through the City of Riverton and are difficult to access and maintain. These presently open canals will be replaced by buried pipelines. This will greatly reduce both maintenance costs and water losses. The estimated total project cost is $700,000.

In 1994, the Commission recommended the project be advanced in the Rehabilitation Program to Level III status with an appropriation of $350,000. The project appropriation would serve as a grant for project materials. Payments will only be made for materials invoiced to the district. The district would be responsible for all costs related to project design, permit procurement, land procurement, construction engineering and construction of the project. The district has prioritized the system repairs and work was completed in the spring and fall of 1995. Work will continue, using district labor and equipment, in 1996 and 1997.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No legislative action is required on this project.
