1997 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects

 81. PROJECT:Sidon Canal Rehabilitation
LEVEL:III
SPONSOR:Sidon Irrigation District
LOCATION:Big Horn County
PROGRAM:Rehabilitation

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level III 206 1995 II $1,060,000* 1998
*50% grant, 50% loan (4%, 10 years)

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Sidon Irrigation District serves about 50 irrigators and 12,000 acres of irrigated land. The sponsor originally applied for Level III funds to replace the Marchant Wash crossing. However, upon further examination, it became apparent that an inventory of the entire system would be more appropriate.

The 1993 Legislature approved Level II funding to assess the condition of the canal and appurtenant structures. The study was completed in 1994 and presented an inventory of the existing water supply system, identified needed improvements, and estimated costs of those improvements. A prioritized rehabilitation plan was developed. Conceptual designs and cost estimates were provided for six structures in critical need of improvement. Construction could begin in the fall of 1997.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No legislative action is required on this project.
