1998 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Project Reports

108.PROJECT:Wamsutter Water Supply
LEVEL:II
SPONSOR:Town of Wamsutter
LOCATION:Sweetwater County
PROGRAM:New Development

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level II 46 1997 I $105,000 1998

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Town of Wamsutter is located in far eastern Sweetwater County and derives its water supply from three wells, all more than 50 years old. The WWDC completed a new well for the town in 1984, but this well was never put on line, allegedly because problems during well completion decreased the available yield. Wamsutter requested assistance to evaluate the condition and remaining life of all four wells, and recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement to insure an adequate supply of water for the community. The Wamsutter system serves a population of 425 through 97 taps.

The Level II report determined that the 1984 WWDC well was in fact a good producer, and should be incorporated into their system. Other system improvements are suggested including a new tank, and improvements to their lines and controls. The total Level III cost is estimated at $1,630,000. The sponsor likely will approach the legislature for funding of a Level III project in 1999.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No legislative action is required.
