Project Reports

 18. PROJECT:Cody Area Water Supply
LEVEL:III
SPONSOR:City of Cody
LOCATION:Park County
PROGRAM:New Development

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level II 8 1995 I $75,000   1996
Level III 59 1996 I $785,000* 1999
*67% grant, 33% loan (4%, 20 years)

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The 1990 census indicates Cody has a population of 7,897, but the city reports considerable growth in the past three years. The present estimated population is 8,200. In addition, the areas around Cody are becoming more populated. The areas are presently served by shallow groundwater of poor quality. The city has requested WWDC assistance in the form of a Level II study to determine the feasibility of expanding its water service area to include three adjacent rural areas. These areas include both residential and industrial water users.

Part of the Level II study has been completed and an interim report has been rafted. The Level II study is evaluating alternatives for Cody to expand its existing system to serve the surrounding areas. Conceptual designs and cost estimates have been prepared for the proposed Valley View annexation area. Valley View is southwest of the Cody city limits. The interim report recommended a storage and transmission main improvements to enable the city to service Valley View and provide better pressure to residents currently within the city limits of Cody. The Valley View improvements are currently under construction and should be completed in early 1998.
