PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
WWDC Level II Riverton Water Supply Study completed by Nelson Engineering in June of 2000.
The municipal and residential raw water distribution system within the city of Riverton is an
offshoot of surrounding agricultural irrigation systems. The responsibility for operations and
maintenance of the ditches, pipes, and laterals comprising the system was assumed by the city
several years ago. The system serves approximately 200 paying customers ($98.00/user/year), but
actual users are estimated to be upwards of 400, and up to 790 users could be served by an
expanded, rehabilitated system.
Preservation and expansion of the system would extend the life-span of the city of Riverton water
treatment plant since the present-day use of the irrigation system is estimated at 400,000
gallons/day. Two laterals that are proposed for rehabilitation are primary laterals for Riverton
Valley Irrigation District and LeClair Irrigation District that deliver water to irrigators downstream
of the city of Riverton system.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends that the project be advanced to Level III in the Rehabilitation Program
and only final design specifications for the project be funded with an appropriation of $85,000. The
financing plan is a 50% grant, $85,000, from WWDC and the remaining 50% will be locally
funded.
