PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Town of Dayton would like to have a new test well drilled in the Madison formation to
determine if there is an adequate groundwater supply to replace their surface water source in the
Tongue River. Federal regulations pertaining to groundwater do not require the extensive treatment
and treatment costs that surface water does.
The study would look for a well capable of providing enough of a supply for both Dayton and
Ranchester which lies six miles to the east. If an adequate supply is found, Dayton and Ranchester
may consider the implementation of a Joint Powers Board and share the cost of transmission to both
towns.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends the project be incorporated into the New Development Program at Level
II with an appropriation of $460,000.
