PROJECT INFORMATION:
In 1981 the Legislature appropriated $3,000,000 to be granted to incorporated municipalities for the purpose of groundwater exploration. Grants were limited to $200,000, a 10% match was required and only one could be made to municipality. In 1984 an additional $1,000,000 was appropriated and the local share was increased to 25%. Over the years 37 communities have benefited from this program.

During the present drought situation in the State, it has become apparent that additional funding that could be used to assist municipalities and special districts through the drought.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends that an additional $1,500,000.00 be appropriated for the program, the grant amount be raised to a maximum of $400,000.00 per entity and the program be expanded to include special districts.
