2003 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects

 34. PROJECT:Dayton Groundwater
LEVEL:II
SPONSOR:Town of Dayton
LOCATION:Sheridan County
PROGRAM:New Development

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level I 36 2000 I $60,000 2002
Level II 86 2001 II $50,000 2002
Level II 7 2002 I $460,000 2004

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Town of Dayton requested a Madison formation test well to determine if there is an adequate groundwater supply to replace their surface water source in the Tongue River. Federal regulations pertaining to groundwater do not require the extensive treatment. That is typically associated with surface water.

The exploration program has resulted in a successful well, however at the time this report was written the yield had not yet been determined. The intent is to locate a well capable of providing enough water to supply both Dayton and Ranchester, which lies six miles to the east. If an adequate supply is found, Dayton and Ranchester may consider the implementation of a Joint Powers Board and share the cost of transmission to both towns.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No legislative action is required at this time.
