2003 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects
65. | PROJECT: | Kirby Creek Watershed Plan | | | | | |
| LEVEL: | New Application |
| SPONSOR: | Hot Springs Conservation District |
| LOCATION: | Hot Springs County |
| PROGRAM: | Rehabilitation |
PROJECT INFORMATION:
The Kirby Creek watershed contains approximately 128,400 acres of land. Ownership is divided
between federal, private, and state interests. The district would like an evaluation of alternatives
to address water quality, head cutting, sediment and flood control issues within the watershed.
Also of interest to the district are the lack of developed upland livestock and wildlife water and
impacts to riparian areas within the drainage. This information would provide baseline
information from which the District can continue to expand upon to begin implementation of
management practices that address the natural resource issues within the drainage.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends the project be incorporated into the Rehabilitation Program at Level I
with an appropriation of $175,000.
