PROJECT INFORMATION:
The proposed project would be located on the Middle Fork of the Powder River. The Middle
Fork Reservoir would have a total capacity of 59,600 acre-feet, of which 47,700 acre-feet would
be active storage for water supply and the remaining 11,900 acre-feet would serve as a minimum
pool fisheries and recreation purposes. The project would yield 32,200 acre-feet per year for
industrial, agricultural and instream flow purposes. The project would cost approximately
$60,000,000. In 1990, WWDC completed negotiations to obtain an interest in the reservoir
permits from the Powder River Reservoir Corporation (PRRC).
The transfer required a separate contract between EXXON U.S.A. and WWDC. EXXON has
invested about 1.5 million dollars in the project and has a contract with the PRRC, which had to
be addressed before the state can proceed toward construction of the project. The Commission
contracted with the USGS for a study of water quality parameters in the Powder River drainage.
This report was completed in 1992.
RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
The WWDC recommends that the project be retained at Level II-Hold status.
