2003 LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Active Projects

128.PROJECT:Three Horses Watershed Study
LEVEL:I
SPONSOR:Campbell County and Lake DeSmet Conservation Districts
LOCATION:Campbell, Johnson and Sheridan Counties
PROGRAM:New Development

EXISTING LEGISLATION:
Purpose Chapter Session Account Appropriation Due Date
Level I 86 2001 I $100,000 2002

PROJECT INFORMATION:
The drainages of Spotted Horse Creek, Dead Horse Creek and Wild Horse Creek head waters are located east of the Powder River and are tributary to the Powder River. These three watersheds make up the watershed study area to be considered. The Three Horses Watershed supports some limited irrigated as well as dryland agriculture, however, cattle production is the primary agricultural industry in all three watersheds.

Due to recent activity involving coalbed methane exploration and extraction, the Conservation Districts are interested in evaluating the cumulative impacts to the watershed due to these activities. This project will include an analysis of these impacts as well as making full use of any other existing studies available for a complete watershed plan.

RECOMMENDED LEGISLATIVE ACTION:
No further legislative action is required at this time.
