PROJECT INFORMATION:
The 1998 Level II project looked at combining the West Side Sewer & Water
District with several other well water users in the area west of Rock
Springs in a common water system. The water supply for the project will
be obtained from the City of Green River, Wyoming; City of Rock Springs,
Wyoming, Sweetwater County, State of Wyoming Joint Power Water Board
through a pipeline that is operated and maintained by the City of Rock
Springs. The water users in the area consist of a collection of homes,
trailer courts and businesses. The water users in this area currently
get their water from private wells and a 12 inch and a 6 inch water lines
which are connected to the old Rock Springs water system 20 inch line.
The old 20 inch Rock Springs water system line in the area was built
around 1929 and the district members state that it is in constant need
of repair.
The 1998 Level II project looks at providing three new water system loops
in the area of west Rock Springs by replacing private wells and most of
the old water system. The new development portion of the project will
provide new transmission mains in the south and north areas of west Rock
Springs. The portion of the project funded from water development account
II will rehabilitate the old transmission main in the west area of west
Rock Springs.
The district was the original applicant for the Level II project. However,
because the system is owned by the Joint Powers Board and operated by Rock
Springs, the Joint Powers Board will be the sponsor for the Level III project.
The 1999 legislature approved an appropriation of $450,000 from the New
Development Program for the installation of new distribution lines and a an
appropriation of $625,000 for the rehabilitation of existing distribution
lines.
The Joint Powers Water Board awarded an engineering contract for design
and construction administration services to Nelson Engineering Inc. in
September, 1999 with design completion anticipated by March of 2000.
Construction is anticipated to start in the summer of 2000 and be
completed by the end of the year 2000.
