Stream Sayin's

by Ron Vore

Listen, as the creeks do tell
of lands they've passed through
of summer rain and winter snow
off steep terrain of mountains high

Listen as the creeks do tell
of cascade reaches on rocky bottoms
dinging to slopes of ancient time
the plunging momentum hurling a constant song

Listen, as the streams do tell
of lands they're passing the rough
of channels to carve, cut and skew
through rocks, soils and grass

Listen, as the streams do tell
tales of their meandering watersheds
building and cutting sinuous patterns
making or taking in timeless traditions

Listen, as the rivers do tell
of lands they're passing to
stories of water at work and play
constantly scouring, breaking, lifting

Listen, as the rivers do tell
of building life and living
of deltas to form, terraces to build
and basins to raise from the past.
